The inhabitants of Bali in Indonesia are descendents from asians that arrived from different countries in Asia to the Indonesian archipelago. The first settlements date back 2500 years before Christ. Afterwards came the Hindu´s, which arrived 100 years b.c. When you speak of history in Bali you must know a little bit about the Majaphit Empire that founded the first Bali colony in the island of Java after the muslim invasion that forced many to leave the island of Bali.
The Europeans didn´t arrive until 1343 when the Dutch explorer Cornelis Houtman set foot on land and established and commercial colony. After the dutch declared their own colony it started a series of colonial wars.
In the 20th century another type of invasion came, this time more pacific, and instead of taking the riches it richened their economy. This all happened with the growing tourism rates that started around the 1920´s from people looking for paradise beaches in Bali. In 1948 Bali became part of the Oriental Indonesian Republic. |
